　　上世纪30年代的匈牙利，诞生了一首经典名曲《忧郁的星期天》，它之所以出名是因为有150多人在听过这首曲子后自杀，所以也被称为“历史上最悲苦的音乐”，后来作家尼克·巴克以此为背景创作了同名小说，1999年，德国导演若夫·舒贝尔把小说搬上银幕，就是这部怀旧唯美的《布达佩斯之恋》。

　　本片叙述的是一首歌与一段横跨两代的爱情故事。将时空设定在德军进驻布达佩斯的战乱时代。多瑙河的浪漫风景、复杂的男女四角关系、音乐家的传奇一生加上乱世的恢弘场面，已经让影片有了非常丰富的电影元素。但严格说来，主角并不是片中风情万种的餐厅老板娘，不是痴情务实的餐厅老板，不是狂傲不羁的钢琴家，更不是阴险狡诈的德国军官，而是那首叫做《GloomySunday》的凄美歌曲。这首歌原本是钢琴师献给已为人妻的餐厅老板娘的，但没想到在畅销后，却引发歌迷相继自杀的社会事件，同时世界大战也即将开始……这首歌犹如向导般带领观众俯瞰乱世中无奈但真挚的永恒爱情，更不时化身为主角随着故事情节由单音旋律逐渐变成交响乐曲，向观众表达以音乐捍卫心灵，对抗无情岁月的故事。
