I don't support additional monetary reward for athletes who win in the Olympics. The idea of the Olympics is to compete for the honor of being the best. By winning the Olympics, the athletes are already receiving medals officially rewarding them of their achievements. Medals are used as prizes instead of money in the first place because such an honorable event should not be tainted by the lure of greed. Already, the fame that comes with winning the Olympics bring the victorious athletes many more opportunities to earn money. Through filming commercials and taking other media jobs, athletes pick up a great bonus salary that functionally constitute as a monetary prize. Thus, there is no need for the government to provide more monetary reward. Instead, governments federal and local should use that money to further develop their sports programs and invest for more Olympic golds.
