60年代末，在伦敦和纽约街头墙壁上最显眼的涂鸭是
“克莱普顿(Clapton)是上帝”(Clapton is God)。
30年过去了，人们仍然深深地为这位坚强的吉他演奏家、歌唱家所吸引，个人生活的不幸一直随着随着克莱普顿曲折且辉煌的音乐事业。

他通过音乐表达他真实的感情，他也陷入酒精、毒品的缠绕，借以逃避、缓解友人的离去，亲人、爱人的死去。

在一次演出归来的途中，年轻的布鲁斯吉他大师Stevie Ray Vaughan和Clapton的演出伙伴Colin Smythe 和Nigel Browne 在直升机失事的事故中丧生，克莱普顿坐在后面的飞机上亲眼目睹了这一惨痛的场面。

他们都是克莱普顿最亲近的朋友。几个月后，致命的打击再次到来，他4岁的儿子科纳从曼哈顿53层楼的窗口不慎坠下身亡。这个打击几乎让他一蹶不振。从此他寄情于音乐，用不间断的创作缓解难以负荷的伤痛，用至情至胜的歌声超度死者的灵魂。

这首《泪洒天堂 》是 克莱普顿用他已经被悲痛碾得粉碎的心为纪念他的儿子所作。

《泪洒天堂 》旋律凄美流畅，催人泪下，克拉普顿混杂着沙哑喉音的吟唱情真意切，歌声苍凉悲壮却又柔情似水，能够净化人的灵魂，淋漓尽致地表达出了一个饱经沧桑的男子在命运和时间面前的无助。将一个父亲对孩子深深的爱和失去爱子后深切的悲痛寄于歌中，
