What be sb like 可以询问人的外貌，更多的是询问某人的成就，品质，性格等内在的东西

What is her mother like？
She is a very kind woman.

What do sb look like则仅限于询问外貌

What does she look like.
She is a girl with long hair

事实上没多大区别，前者指某人的外貌特征，可以是tall,thin,short之类的，后者指长得象什么，可以是father,mother,monkey之类的

意思基本没有区别。
不过感觉后者用的较多

意思上没有什么很大的区别...但后者是用助动词的...
