你的经验还是挺丰富的嘛！竟然可以乱改用法。

这两个词是基本一样的，除了拼法和读音。
这两个词的区别只在于contrary是用在论文，正规书信等正规场合用的。opposite多用于非正式场合。

contrary - opposed (反对的，敌对的)
- completely different （完全不同的，相反的）
opposite - facing, on the other side （面对面，在。。对面）

比如说一篇论文里写道：
Some advertisements influence teens in a negative way. However on the contrary, others also conveys positive messages to teenagers.

有些广告对青年人又不好的影响。但相反的，其他的广告也传达正面的信息给青年人。

opposite 一般用于位置 面对面的位置
He sits opposite from me.
他坐我对面。
