高考问答夜的第七章demo:请教高手一个关于标点的问题

遇到过2个句子1."the door opened and the teacher came in."2."he not only made a promise ,but he also kept it." 这两个句子都是连词将两个句子连在一起了,但关于标点符号的运用,为什么两句话第一个不用逗号,第2句又用了呢,请问用和不用,是不是都可以呀?
第一个可以用，但第二个不可以不用！
因为第二个句子是同一个主语--he, 否则就是这样的：
He not only made a promise but also kept it.
我认为两个句子里的标点用和不用都一样，意思没有改变啊，楼上的可以告诉我你的这两个句子有什么不同吗，谢谢
