In accordance with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher
Education (QAA), published in January 2001 in The framework for higher education
qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, these awards correspond to the
following levels in the national qualifications framework:
Honours degree H level
Unclassified degree I level
Diplomas in Higher Education I level
Certificates in Higher Education C level

16.1 Conditions for the award of a named BSc (Hons) degree
The award of the named BSc Honours Degree will normally require a minimum
number of module passes awarded as indicated in the University Academic
Regulations. Seven modules (105 credits) must be passed; six modules (90 credits)
at Level 3 plus one module (15 credits) at Level 2 or Level 3.
Honours Classification
The honours calculation is based on the average mark of the best six Level 3
modules which must include 303EMD, 320MFT, 318MFT and 314DES. of the main features of
the programme and the learning outcomes that a typical student might reasonably be
expected to achieve and demonstrate if he/she takes full advantage of the learning
opportunities that are provided. More detailed information on the learning outcomes,
content and teaching, learning and assessment methods of each module can be
found in the Module Information Directory (MID), the module guide(s) and course
handbook. The accuracy of the information contained in this document is reviewed by
the University and may be checked by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher
Education.

For a Degree with Distinction an average mark of at least 70% is required in the best
five Level 3 modules at the first attempt. For a Degree with Merit at least 60% is
required in the best five Level 3 modules at the first attempt.
16.3 Conditions for the award of a Diploma of Higher Education
Students who do not satisfy the conditions above in 16.1 and 16.2 will be considered
for the offer of the award of a DipHE. Students must satisfy the University General
Regulation for this award which require five modules (75 credits) to be passed at
Level 2 or Level 3.
For a Diploma with Distinction an average mark of at least 70% is required in the best
five modules at level 2 or above at the first attempt. For a Diploma with Merit at least
60% is required in the best five modules at Level 2 or above at the first attempt.
16.4 Conditions for the award of a Certificate of Higher Education
Students who do not satisfy the conditions above in 16.1, 16.2 and 16.3 will be
considered for the offer of the award of a CertHE. Students must satisfy the University
General Regulation for this award which require three modules (45 credits) be passed
at Level1 or above.
