　　“大家对我们最大的误解就是以为我们只是个摇滚乐队，我们认为我们的音乐是由很多类型音乐交错而成,，一种伴着我们六个人成长岁的综合体。”吉他手布莱德说。本想用于首张专辑相同的名字《混合理论》的林肯公园乐队认为“混合理论”就是乐队努力的目标。乐风融入重金属的另类摇滚、嘻哈节奏、炫丽的电子乐，俨然乐队的音乐已成为摇滚乐e世代的精神堡垒。96年，学校同窗的主唱麦可与布莱德在麦可的卧室型迷你录音室录下第一首歌，林肯公园乐队就这样在南加州播下音乐的种子，两人随后结识鼓手罗伯。过了一阵子，麦可与同在帕莎迪纳市艺术中心学院研习绘画的DJ乔瑟夫搭上线，念加州大学洛杉矶分校的布莱德碰巧跟贝斯手菲尼克斯同为住校室友，菲尼克斯曾在大学毕后曾一度离团，一年后重新归队，组对拼图中的最后一块也是最重要的一块就是来自亚利桑那州的主唱查斯特，十六岁就开始录唱片玩音乐的查斯特笑着说∶“我才两岁大我就爱嚷着外国人乐队(Foreigner)的歌，我还有录制成带子呢!打从我开始学说话，我就开始告诉大家，我长大一定要当歌手。”
