我的问题就是源于"There are things we don't want to happen but have to accept."这句话~things we have to accept很显然是对的`但总觉得things we don't want to happen很怪`things又做宾语又做主语?

没有错，一楼反而改错了。楼主这句子只是省略了(that)we don't want to happen中的that.
见下面的例句：
"There are things we don't want to happen but have to accept,

There're things what we don't want to happen

应该是想说：总有些事实我们不想发生 的吧？
那就改为
there're things we do not wish happening
