Course outline: Students will train to teach all the Key Learning Areas of the primary curriculum of the NSW Department of Education and Training. In addition, the degree provides the opportunity to complete units of study which enhance the core primary components of the degree.

Special units of study offered in fourth year allow students to build on their areas of special interest. Some of the special units of study which are currently offered are Special Education, Languages, Educational Drama, Aboriginal Studies, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and Judaic Studies.

Assumed knowledge: Depends on subjects chosen.

Graduates intending to seek employment with the NSW Department of Education and Training to teach at primary level must have completed any two units of mathematics and any two units of English at the HSC or equivalent.

Areas of study: Major studies: All students follow a core program of study in education, along with intensive study and practicum in the professional area, primary education.

Minor studies: Science Foundations is a two semester long unit of study taken in the first year of candidature, which gives students a working knowledge of the main areas of science: physics, chemistry, geology and biology. Four other semester length units of study selected from the enormous range of those offered by the Faculties of Arts, Science, and Economics and Business are also taken in first year. Students take one or more of these to a second year of study.
