could是can嘚过去时.或者是用could更加嘚礼貌

be able to 嘚意思是 能够做...应该没什么区别..

只是形式不同

can 表示具备能够做某件事的能力、技能、功能，但并没有去做
be able to 表示因具有智能、体力、财力、技巧办法或集会等而得以做成某件事，表示这件事最后做成了
eg. He didn't agree with me at first, but in the end I was able to persuade him.他最初不同意我的意见，但我最终说服了他。
He was able to leave Europe before war.(他得以在战前离开了欧洲)
When I was young, I could clime any trees in my country.表示我小的时候具备爬任何树的能力，但我并没有真的一棵一棵去爬过。
