Compensation Agreement: An agreement whereby an exporter will accept a specified amount of product from the importer as a full or a partial payment in kind. Full compensation deals are similar to barter. However, a currency of exchange is used, and each party bills for his own shipment. Furthermore, the exporter can assign his commitment to a third party. Partial compensation deals involve partial currency payment, and the rest is in local products.
