sort的意思是1：种类；2：品质，性质；3：分类，整理；4：拣选．

拼写不同,没有区别.

1．sort

（1） vt . 分类，整理，常与 through 和 over 连用。

（to put things in order; place according to kind; arrange）

You can sort(through) old papers to see what can be thrown away.

把旧文件加以整理，看看哪些可以丢掉。（sort (through) sth. 整理某物）

Sort out enemies from friends. 区分敌友。（sort out … from … 从……中分出来）

He has got a job sorting letters in the Post Office.

他找到了一份在邮局里分信件的工作。（sort sth 把……分类）

（2） n. 种类；类型；（人或物等的）群，种；型；品等

What sort of book do you want?

你需要的是哪一种书？（what＋sort of＋可数名词单数）

You will find people of every sort and kind in the world.

你会发现这世界上有各种各样的人。

注意：一般指“贬义”之意，多用 sort. 例如：

That was nice of her; she's not such a bad sort after all.

她做得对，毕竟她不是坏人。

I have never seen such an ugly sort of castle.

我从没看见过这么丑陋的城堡。

惯用法：

（1）a sort of 有几分的；某种的；稍微的

I have a sort of feeling you'd say that.

我有点预到你会那样说。

（2）of sorts/a sort 勉强算是的，名不符实的

It's a painting of sorts, but hard to describe.

这勉强算是一幅画，可是毫无特色。

（3）out of sorts 情绪欠佳；身体不适；心烦

2．kind n. 种类，类型

kind同义词为sort。a kind of 意为“一种”，all kinds of意为“各种各样的”。如：

① I want a kind of coat like yours. 我想要一件像你那件一样的外套。

② There are all kinds of coats in this shop. 在这家商店里有各种各样的外套。

kind还可用作形容词，意为“友善的”，常有搭配be kind to sb，意思为“对某人友好/友善”.
